PROJECTS THROUGH OUT THE SCHOOL YEAR

The Joy of Pepsi Series
The local Pepsi Cola Corporation presented a series of business development seminars to the 11th & 12th grade students including business etiquette.

Truancy Program
Local judge discussed truancy and its consequences.

Etiquette Classes (Dining)
Students are taught proper dining etiquette and finish with a 5-course dinner at local hotel restaurant.

College Essays
All seniors are required to complete required college essays for college applications, which are due 2nd week of November. Essays are emailed to the Executive Director who then sends them to volunteers where they are edited. Students are given guidance on how to correct, rewrite etc. Freshmen, Sophomores and juniors are required to write practice essays as well

Senior College Applications mail-out
All seniors are required to have 4 college applications along with their revised essays ready to mail out 1st week of December. This helps them with early admissions and to find scholarship monies. Club staff works with students and parents to ensure forms are properly filled out and mailed before deadlines.

Academic Study Sessions
Any students having academic problems during the year are tutored to get them back on track. This includes students who have missed school due to illnesses, death or any other emergency. Special assistance is given those students who have gotten behind on their studies and are in danger of giving up.

Final Exam Study Sessions
Students requesting assistance are tutored for final exams. Sessions held at the schools with teachers and others in the community volunteering their time to work with the students. There is 100% passing rate for the students participating in the program.

Annual Holiday Dinner
Students, parents/guardians, senior citizens, Board of Directors and guests come together for a five-course meal at a local hotel. Majority of meal cost is underwritten by hotel. During this time, students donate their funds for Haiti orphanage project, Twuohofo School in Ghana and Nigeria.

Links Inc., Gift Caravan
Students worked with the local chapter of the Links, Inc., to sort and wrap gifts for the needy and various agencies.

Holiday Fun for Disadvantaged Children
Club members came together to play, paint faces, create ornaments, design cards and build gingerbread houses with needy and disadvantaged children.

TAKS preparation
Students work with mentors and other students to prepare to take this exam. Work with Study-Buddy program at Clark High School.

MEDALS Program
A leadership development program for 11th and 12th grades students who attend leadership seminars each year in January at Texas A&M, College Station, Texas.

Annual Black History Program
A citywide program presented in the Plano area. The program is presented and performed by Club members. Local artists and vendors of African American arts display their wares in theater foyer while guests are serenaded by string quartet. Reception held after the Black History program.

Focus For the Future Seminar & Teen Health Fair
Annual teen seminar focusing on (a) gangs and drugs (b) self esteem (c) resume writing (c) interviewing skills (d) time management (e)health and nutrition. Sessions are presented by professional business and community leaders.

Frito-Lay/Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day
11th and 12th grade students, along with students from other Dallas area schools, spend day job shadowing corporate executives on Frito-Lay campus.

Nortel Networks Field Trip
All students 9th -12th grades spent ½ day at Nortel with corporate executives who expose them to high tech careers.

Financial Security & Responsibility
Juniors and seniors met with financial counselor and were taught how to be responsible with their finances now and especially when they go to college.

MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)
Juniors and seniors participated in program with MADD representative, a paraplegic as a result of a drunk driver. The program was presented the week before prom.

Studying Diversity amongst Us….
All students participated in this EDS/Club sponsored seminar. Students learned how to accept others for who they are and how to get along with others.

An Evening of Success, Achievement and Awards (Odd years)
Club members participate in this end of school year program where they showcase their talents to their families and the community.

Presentation Debutante & Beau Ball(Even years)
Juniors and seniors presented as Debutantes & Beaux in this formal white-tie ball. Ninth and tenth grades are presented as "Budding" Beaux and Debs. An elegant affair that students & parents will never forget.
